Get The Natural Cure For Acid ReluxQuestion by LeeLee: Natural remedies to cure hiatal hernia?
I’ve been diagnosed with a hiatal hernia, swelling in part of my esophagus and GERD although I don’t suffer from heartburn too often . I am a non-smoker, not overweight and assume this has been brought on by considerable stress. At any rate, are there any natural cures that might be offered, as I’m not big on conventional meds, the side effects appear to be as damaging as the diagnosis! I will share what I have tired so far, that has not been effective…”an apple a day”, ginger tea, table spoon of honey daily, digestive enzymes, evening primrose. Any other suggestions?! You’re advice will be greatly appreciated.

I got a hiatal hernia last January–horrible pain; I understand!
I found a few things that helped me: Drink a cup of warm water all at once and then standing on your tip toes, come down fast on your heels, back up to toes, back down fast to heels, etc., for a total of 15 repetitions. Do this 2-3 times a day. The warm water relaxes the stomach and provide enough weight as “traction” to pull down the stomach below the diaphragm. I also found a chiropractor who does a maneuver that accomplishes the same thing.
I see a Chinese medical doctor who put me on a special diet and prescribed herbal teas. What a miraculous difference it made for me! You need to find a Traditional Chinese MD who was classically trained and works with herbs in tea form.
Good luck! You WILL feel better. also beware of stress and strain that causes you to clench your stomach. I also had to find another way to work the abs in exercise while this healed. As we age, hiatal hernias are more common due to relaxing connective tissue, etc.

Here are some suggestions I know will help.
Minimize heavy lifting, straining, bending over.
Improve seated posture; don’t slouch.
Exercise more.
Sleep on an incline, which means putting blocks of wood or something under the legs to the head-side of your bed raising it about 4 or 5 inches. It’s takes a while to get accustomed to this because your feet may end up hanging off the end of the bed sometimes, but it helps.
Eat smaller meals.
No chocolate.
No fried or fatty foods.
Avoid caffeine.
No peppermint.
No alcohol.
No orange juice.
No spicy foods.
No tight fitting clothes
No meals within 3 hours of bedtime.
It’s helpful to take Zantac 150, PrilosecOTC or similar antacid, or any prescribed like Nexium, Prilosec are even better.
It’s also very helpful to use Benefiber, Metamucil or similar fiber.
Milk is sometimes helpful.
Good Luck!
I agree completely with n8ivCaliGrl but would add just one thing. Add liquid Lobelia to the warm water, just a few drops.
Lobelia is a muscle relaxer and a hiatal hernia is a kink in the esophagus, similar to the kink that can develop in a garden hose when it gets twisted. The Lobelia will relax the spasm that keeps it kinked.
Add a little massge as you drop down on your heals. Massage from high between the ribs all the way down to the belly button in one vigorous stroke as you drop.
Good Luck!
